Jamshedpur, Aug. 3: Police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver who allegedly tried to molest a 16-year-old school girl while dropping the victim at her house in Kadma.
The accused was identified as Shiv Pujan Thakur alias Raju, who is married and a resident of Road No 4 at Shastrinagar in Kadma.
According to information , the victim who is a student of class X of Baldwin Farm Area High School, an English medium school in Kadma informed her parents about the advances made by the auto-rickshaw driver in the afternoon, leading the parents to come to the Kadma police station for lodging a complaint late in the afternoon.
The police picked up the accused from his house immediately after getting the complaint and arrested him after verifying the allegations.
According to a relative of the girl, a month ago the auto-driver was hired to carry the girl along with other school children from Old Farm Area where the school is located to her house in Ulyan in Kadma.
Officer-in-charge, Kadma thana, Animesh Gupta said they acted immediately and nabbed him. They got the complaint at 4 pm and the accused was arrested by 5 pm. Gupta said from the statement of the girl they assumed that the accused auto-driver wanted to take undue advantage by touching the girl when the school gets over.
The principal of the school, Subhra Mukherjee, could not be contacted for comment, but one of the officials of the school said that said they have CCTV cameras in front of the entrance of the school and do monitor the vehicles which do drop the students and carry them from near the school premises.
