Jamshedpur: A day after the Jamshedpur civil court premises witnessed foiled plan of three assailants to murder murder case convict Akhilesh Singh, a team of police officers led by senior SP, Amol V Homkar inspected the court premises to study loopholes in security on Sunday.
The senior SSP reviewed security arrangements on the court premises. He also checked metal detectors installed at the entrance of the court building and found that it was in functional condition, sources said.
SP (city) Karthik S, who accompanied the SSP, said the inspection was carried out in view of the yesterday’s attempt on the life of murder case convict Akhilesh Singh by two armed criminals. “We are reviewing the security arrangements on the court premises and on the basis of such shortcomings, we will beef up security arrangements,” said Karthik.
The police department will also hold a meeting with East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Amitabh Kaushal and also the functionaries of district and sessions judge sometime on Monday.
The incident became sensational as there was not proper police arrangement during the surrender of a high-profile criminal like Akhilesh Singh. The police have detained a woman with whom Akhilesh had talked to for a brief period.
Meanwhile, Sarabjit who had sustained grievous injuries on being thrashed by Akhilesh’s supporters is struggling for his life at the Tata Main Hospital.
Homkar said two other members were arrested with arms and ammunitions. Singh, serving a life term in connection with the murder of Sakchi jailor Uma Shankar Pandey about a decade ago, was brought for production in the court in connection with other pending cases.
Son of Chandragupt Singh, former general secretary of Jharkhand Police Association, Akhilesh allegedly set up a network of extortionists and shooters. The 36-year-old don stepped into the crime world with the abduction of businessman Om Prakash Kabra on July 21, 2001.
Police launched a manhunt for other culprits, who managed to escape from the court premises during the attack. Senior police officials reached the spot and restored order following which the court functioned normally.
