Atal Tinkering Lab opens at JPS, students display innovative working models

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Public School (JPS) organised Atal Tinkering Marathon in the school premises on Saturday morning. Students from class 9 to 12 got a chance to display their innovative ideas through working models & power point presentations.

Tarun Daga, managing director, Tinplate Company, graced the occasion as chief guest. The judges for the event were Dr KL Sahoo, Sr Scientist NML, Amulya Goel, Head Procurement Tata Steel and Arjun Agarwal, Head Electrical, Blast Furnace, Tata Steel.

The programme began with the inauguration of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) by the chief guest in presence of Secretary Sreeparne Ghosh and the Principal Namita Agarwal.

The three best models have been uploaded on the NITI Ayog website for a National Level competition.
The Prize winners for most Innovative Models were- Gaurav Kumar Singh, Arnab Kumar and Bhavesh Shendh of class 11 won the first prize for “Agri Bot”.

Second prize went to Anand and Priyanshu of class 10 who made mechanical mobile charger.

“Plastic Bug” made by the students of class 10 Subhojit Lahiri, Ayush, Saurav and Ankit bagged the third prize.
ATL is a workshop space where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode and learn innovation skills. The objective being to foster curiosity, creativity & imagination in students and inculcate skills such as design mind set, computational thinking , adaptive learning, physical computing , rapid calculations, measurements etc.

Students will get a chance to work with tools & equipment to understand what, how & why aspects of STEM (Science , technology, engineering & Maths). The students have greatly benefitted by getting an opportunity to work in the tinkering Lab.
