At 67, Jamshedpur man earns PhD degree

Jamshedpur, April 5: In a display of determination, 67-year-old Anjani Kishore Sahay from Jamshedpur earned his PhD degree and proved that no-one is ever too old to go back to school.

Son of Gaur Priya Devi and the late father Krishna Nand Sahay, Anjani Kishore Sahay has been awarded the degree from Usha Martin University.

Sahay’s research focused on the ‘Impact of training and development on employees of steel industries of Jharkhand’, a topic of vital relevance to the region.

Remarkably, Sahay completed his doctoral studies within a span of three years, setting a commendable example of dedication and perseverance.

Under the guidance of Dr. Anupama Verma, he successfully navigated the rigors of academic research.

Sahay’s journey is characterized by a lifelong commitment to Tata Steel, where he served for 39 years since joining as a GT in the 1980 batch until his retirement in 2017.

His decision to pursue a doctorate post-retirement reflects his enduring pursuit of knowledge and personal fulfillment.

The achievement holds particular significance as Sahay comes from a family steeped in academic excellence, with numerous members having attained doctoral degrees. His sons, Dr. Ashesh Prasanna and Dr. Aparaman Sahay, earned their PhD degrees in the United States, while his younger son, Abhilash Prasanna, is currently pursuing a PhD in Geneva.

Inspired by his family’s academic legacy and driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully, Sahay embarked on his research journey during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout his endeavor, he received unwavering support and encouragement from friends and well-wishers, which bolstered his spirits and fueled his determination.
