Jamshedpur, Aug 17: Association of British Scholars (ABS), Jamshedpur chapter recently organised an exhibition debate at the Beldih Club, Jamshedpur. The Beldih centenary debate was one of its kind conducted with the objective of exposing the conscientious youth of Jamshedpur to fine debating skills.
The star studded event had the very famous, energetic and enigmatic Barry O Brien as the chief guest. Barry expressed great delight in this endeavour by the Association of British Scholars. He said that at a time when literary activities had taken a back seat with dance and music getting prominent , this debate was a pleasant change and a great learning experience.
The participants of the debate were the following: Dr Jitu Singh, faculty at XLRI, Dr Shantanu Chakraborty , faculty at the IIT and engaged with the government on a project , Vijay Trehan, Rotarian, Sangeeta Jha, lawyer, Arup Basu, medical practitioner , Sharat P Mechery, Tata Steel executive Kunal Sarangi , politician and Aparna Singh, GST officer.
Every speaker presented his/ her opinion based on facts and figures to support or oppose the motion ‘ Politics can never be ethical.’ Poornima Dore Roy of Tata Trust was the moderator for this very prestigious event.
The executive committee members of ABS, Ashu Tiwary, Sharat Chandran, Lalita Sareen, Jagannath Santra, Dr Anita Gupta, Sunita Sinha and others worked towards conducting a successful event. Association of British scholars works towards promoting literary appreciation and collaborating towards improving UK-India ties.
