Assam Assembly Elections: BJP, Congress Leaders Cast Votes

Dispur (IANS): Leaders and candidates from the BJP and Congress cast their ballots this Thursday as the Assam Assembly elections kicked off. While urging citizens to join the democratic process, representatives from both parties expressed high confidence in a decisive victory.

Key Candidates Hit the Polling Stations

The morning saw high-profile figures heading to the booths to exercise their franchise:

  • Pradyut Bordoloi (BJP): The former MP and Dispur candidate voted at Marikalong High School. “I have just cast my vote,” he told reporters, noting he traveled back to his original polling station because he hadn’t transferred his voting rights.

  • Gaurav Gogoi (Congress): The MP cast his vote with a vision for the future. “We will build a new Assam,” Gogoi stated. He promised that a Congress victory would preserve local culture and halt migration.

  • Rakibul Hussain (Congress): Voting alongside his family, the MP emphasized his commitment to the democratic duty, refusing to make any statements that might disrupt the process.

BJP Candidates Rally for “Progress and Development”

BJP contenders focused their messaging on the government’s track record and the state’s growth:

  • Rajdeep Goala (Udharbond): Goala urged everyone to vote, hoping citizens would support the BJP to keep Assam on the “path of development.”

  • Bolin Chetia (Sadiya): Chetia claimed the state’s youth strongly back the BJP due to their trust in the government’s recent work.

  • Manab Deka: Describing the election as a “festival,” Deka apologized for any harsh campaign rhetoric and encouraged a massive turnout.

  • Atul Bora (NDA, Bokakhat): Bora highlighted the enthusiasm of women and young voters, calling the day “memorable” after months of hard work.

Opposition Voices Call for Systemic Change

Candidates from the Congress alliance and others focused on the need for a new direction:

  • Indranil Pegu (Congress, Majuli): Pegu celebrated the high turnout, calling the day a “moment of joy” for democracy.

  • Kunki Chowdhary (AJP/Congress Alliance): Chowdhary stressed the importance of participation for reform. “People have come out to bring real change,” she remarked.

High Spirits at the Booths

First-time candidate Mridul Kumar Dutta (BJP) shared his delight at seeing his name on the ballot, while fellow candidate Surya Rongphar noted that the public’s energy clearly signals support for the party. As polling continues, both camps remain certain that the voters’ mandate will fall in their favor.
