Jamshedpur: Unidentified criminals shot at Gurucharan Singh Billa, president of Jharkhand Sikh Pratinidhi Board, in Sitaramdera on Saturday. The victim was taken to Tata Main Hospital in serious condition. He was an accused in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. He was acquitted in the case.
Sources said the incident took place in the morning when Billa was on his way to Sitaramdera Gurudwara. Assailants opened fire on him from close range. Billa sustained bullet injuries in his hands and back.
Hearing gunshots, local residents rushed to the scene and sent Billa to TMH. Members of Sikh community reached TMH in large numbers. SP City and other senior police officials reached the scene to investigate the incident.
