Ashutosh Mahato named ‘Scholar of the Year’ at Tata Steel Foundation’s Academic Excellence Awards

Jamshedpur, April 28: Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), in collaboration with Suri Seva Foundation, hosted the Suri Seva Foundation – Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony 2025 at Tata Steel Technical Institute (TSTI), Burmamines, Jamshedpur. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements of students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, integrity, and social responsibility.

The programme was graced by Kulvin Suri, founder of Suri Seva Foundation, Anumita Sengupta, Principal, TSTI, Sourav Roy, CEO Tata Steel Foundation, Captain Amitabh, Head Skill Development, Tata Steel Foundation and others.

Reflecting upon Tata Steel Foundation’s commitment to education, character-building, and community empowerment, the awards honored students who have not only excelled academically but have also demonstrated a vision for leadership and social change.

Speaking on the occasion, Kulvin Suri said: “It is indeed a privilege for the Suri Seva Foundation to be associated with the Academic Excellence Awards at TSTI. This is a humble contribution to enable TSTI achieve its objective of developing young engineering professionals steeped in the Tata culture of value-based professional excellence.  These awards have been instituted in respectful memory of elders of the Suri family.”

Sharing his thoughts, Captain Amitabh said: “These awards testify the consistent efforts by the recipient students and act as a motivation to the junior batches that they too can make it to the coveted award next year. I thank Suri Seva Foundation for supporting us as we work to ensure academic excellence at technical training for students at TSTI.”

Since the inception of the Awards in 2021, 26 students have been recognised for their contributions within and beyond their academic fields. This year, following a rigorous evaluation process of 103 candidates, 7 outstanding students were selected based on a holistic assessment encompassing academics, societal contributions, leadership potential, and commitment to giving back to their communities.

Award Highlights:

.     Scholar of the Year (₹1,00,000): Ashutosh Mahato

  •      Top Three – Mechatronics:
  •      1st Place (₹80,000): A Sneha
  •      2nd Place (₹50,000): Jyoti Kumari Munda
  •      3rd Place (₹20,000): Khushi Singh
  •      Top Three – Electrical and Electronics:
  •      1st Place (₹80,000): Siphali Kumari
  •      2nd Place (₹50,000): Devjyoti Mishra
  •      3rd Place (₹20,000): Tanisha Goutam

 

A total of ₹4,00,000 in awards were disbursed, however, the actual impact extended beyond monetary recognition, that of instilling confidence, inspiring leadership, and fostering a sense of community responsibility among students.

 

Tata Steel Foundation, through such initiatives, continues to champion holistic education and youth empowerment, nurturing a generation where academic success is complemented by societal impact.
