Arjun Munda plays host on Kali Puja, Raghubar Das participates

Jamshedpur: Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Monday played a perfect host at the Maa Kali Puja celebration at his residence in Ghorabandha.

Maintaining the more than 17-year-old tradition, the senior leader organized the puja and he distributed bhog among the devotees.

Munda not only hosted corporate bigwigs, political leaders but also raised the issue of closure of Tayo Rolls with the Chief Minister Raghubar Das on the sidelines of a grand Kali Puja feast at his ancestral house near Telco.

The CM who arrived at Ghorabandha at 10.30 am was served bhog by the three time-former CM Arjun Munda at the sprawling canvas pandal (more than 15,000 sq feet) erected for the day-long bhog distribution ceremony.

The surprise on the faces of many was evident as they stood with folded hands to greet the former CM, only to have him come and serve them food personally.

After enjoying bhog (comprising khichdi, potatoes, brinjal chops, mixed vegetable, fried papad, chutney and kheer in the company of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar and SSP Anoop T Mathew, Raghubar Das along with Arjun Munda sat in an enclosure and discussed various issues while enjoying a cup of tea offered by Munda’s better half Meera Munda at the pandal.

“It was nice interacting with the CM. I also made him aware about the negative fallout of the closure of Tayo Rolls not only for the workers but also for other investors in the state.

The CM has assured to look into the issue and do everything possible to stop closure of the industry. I will raise other issues with the CM at the appropriate forum,” said Munda, dressed in a pink kurta and white dhoti, at the pandal.

Gamharia (in Seraikela-Kharsawan district) based Tayo Rolls (a Tata Steel subsidiary) is a metal fabrication and processing plant and was promoted in 1968 in collaboration with Yodogawa Steel Works of Japan.

The company announced the closure of its operation in September this year after announcing voluntary retirement scheme proposals for its employees which was not accepted by a majority of its 673 employees.

Meanwhile, principal secretary of labour, employment, training and skill development department, Jharkhand, S. K. G Rahate in its letter issued last week had rejected the company’s application for closure of operation.

Raghubar Das who greeted people on the occasion of festival refused to answer queries on the topics and results of his discussion with Munda.

But sources who were present at the enclosure said that the two senior most BJP leaders did not discuss political issues but spoke on ushering in development for people by taking various sections into confidence.

Meanwhile since early morning, party leaders, corporate honchos and well wishers poured into the former CM’s residence where Kali Puja is celebrated in a big way traditionally.

Munda organises the puja every year at his paternal house in Jamshedpur to seek the blessing of the goddess Kali.

The Kali Puja is an annual affair organised by the Mundas for over 17 years now, with mother Saira and brother Bhim Singh also taking active interest in the proceedings.
