CM gives Rs 2 lakh compensation to rape and murder victims

Jamshedpur: Chief Minister Raghubar Das gave a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of two victims of crime on the occasion of Deepawali.

He also handed an appointment letter to the wife of a man killed in Maoist violence in the year 2008. The compensations were given in the light of the Victim Compensation Scheme 2012 on behalf of the state government.

The recipients of the compensation included Balvinder Kaur, mother of the minor girl Mahi, who was killed after being raped in Sidhgora, and Gurmeet Kaur, kin of a murder victim. The appointment letter was given to Gulapi Murmu, widow of Soken Murmu, victim of Maoist violence, in Dhalbhum.

District officials said anyone could be given compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme provided the eligibility criteria were fulfilled. The purpose of the compensation is to rehabilitate the victimsí kin. In murder cases, Rs 2 lakh is given as compensation while in rape cases Rs 50,000 is given to the victims, they said.

The deputy commissioner Amit Kumar, senior SP Anup T Mathew, SP city Prashant Anand, SDO Suraj Kumar, ADC Sunil Kumar, DSO Dilip Tiwary, NDC David Balihar and Deputy Collector of CMís Camp Office Sanjay Kumar were also present on the occasion.
