Jamshedpur, October 11, 2015: Budding archers from Jharkhand and Odisha aimed for the bull�s eye at the finals of Tata Steel Archery Tournament, held today at JRD Archery Ground, Jamshedpur.
As many as 200 budding archers�both boys and girls�from hinterlands of the two states participated in Under-14 and Under-16 categories of the tourney�s finals.
A total of 50 archers, including the winners and runners-up, who performed impressively in the finals will undergo a 10-day archery camp by Tata Archery Academy (TAA), which has produced archers of both national and international repute. Besides, Tata Steel will also facilitate the entry of these archers to selection trials organised by TAA and other prominent archery academies in the country.
The fourth edition of the tournament-cum-selection trials, which started on September 19, 2015, drew over 2,800 budding archers, mostly hailing from Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities.
Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, VP Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Arjuna Awardees Deepika Kumari and Jayant Talukdar, Mr. Biren Bhuta, Chief CSR, Tata Steel, Mrs. Dilith Castleton, Head � Empowerment, Mr. Charles Borromeo, Head � Sports, Tata Steel, Mr. LN Murthy, Vice President, Jharkhand Archery Association, Dronacharya Awardee and Tata Archery Academy Coach Mrs. Purnima Mahato, Mr. Kausar Ahmad Sports Coach, CSR and team members were present during the event.
In its bid to spot and encourage budding archers in the countryside of Jharkhand and Odisha, Tata Steel has been holding this tournament since 2012.
In Girls U/14 (30m) category Sweta Kumar of Jamadoba clinch Gold, Rajni Kiran Hessa of Kumardungi got silver and Urmila Tudu of Potka begged bronze. Girls U/16 (30m) category Laxm Tuti of Chakradharpur finishes Gold, Lakhi Soren of Potka Silver and Hiramuni Sinku of Kumardungi bronze. In other Girls U/14 (20m) category Singo Hembrom of Potka begged Gold, Urmila Tudu of Potka Silver and Rajni Kiran Hessa of Kumardungi bronze. In U/16 (20m) Lakhi Soren of Potka clinched Gold, Pinki Munda of Potak Silver, Laxm Tuti of Chakradharpur bronze.
In Boys U/14 (30m) category Uday Kr. Thakur of Jamadoba secure his place for gold, Julen Gope of Chaibasa Silver and Sagar Birua of Chakradharpur bronze. In Boys U/16 (30m) event Birju Deogam of chaibasa took Gold, Ghasiram Murmu of Purihasa silver, Rohit Kumar of Jamadoba bronze.
In other Boys U/14 (20m) category Atul Kumar of Kumardungi secured his birth for Gold, Sagar Birua of Chakradharur Silver, Uday Kr. Thakur of Jamadoba Bronze. Where as in Boys U/16 (20m) category Gunaram Purty of Kumardungi begged Gold, Rohit Kumar of Jamadoba Silver, Mousam Gagri of Kumardungi bronze.
