56th Rolling Mills Operating Committee meet inaugurated

Jamshedpur, March 16: Two-day 56th Rolling Mills Operating Committee Meet hosted by Tata Steel Jamshedpur was inaugurated today at United Club in Bistupur on Thursday.

The theme of the meet is “Performance Improvement of Long & Flat Rolling Mills.”

Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President (Steel Manufacturing), Tata Steel, Jamshedpur was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. He emphasised on the application of Industry 4.0 systems like wireless networks, cloud computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence for improving operation of rolling mills. He also spoke on sustainability and the importance of reduction of CO2 generation in steel plants. 

Rolling Mills Operating Committee (RMOC) is a forum of engineers and experts from different rolling mills of steel plants across India including Tata Steel, SAIL (Steel Authority of India Ltd.), RINL (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd.), Tata Steel Long Products, JSW, JSPL (Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.), Mukand, JSHL (Jindal Stainless Hisar Ltd.), Vedanta-Electro Steel and MECON. This platform is established for exchanging information and ideas among engineers working in rolling mills of different steel plants of the country.

In the 56th RMOC meet, over 103 delegates from different steel plants across the country are participating for exchanging ideas and experiences on performance improvement, cost control and environment control during the rolling process. The meet will witness over 43 presentations by various rolling mills of steel plants across India. Internationally reputed technology suppliers like Primetals, Tenova, Lechler, John Cokreill and Fives Stein will present their technological innovations in rolling mills during the event. The participants will also visit the Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant during the 2-day event.

Welcome address for the inaugural session was delivered by Ajay Kumar Jha, Chief, (Cold Rolling Mill) CRM, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur and Leader, Organizing Committee.  Dr. Sushant Rath, General Manager & Head (Flat Rolling & Tribology), SAIL-RDCIS (Research & Development Centre for Iron & Steel), Ranchi and Secretary, RMOC presented Secretary’s report in the inaugural session. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ranjay Kumar Singh, Chief (Thin Slab Caster & Rolling) TSCR, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur and Alternate Leader of the Organizing Committee.
