Anti-littering drive at Tatanagar Railway Station

Jamshedpur: The Chakradharpur railway division, as a part of the ongoing Swachh Rail campaign has begun an anti-littering drive in several stations under it including A-1 category Tatanagar.

“We have worked out the modalities of a penal clause to put a check on littering on station premises . Those defying orders will have to pay spot fine of Rs 500 and and above depending on the seriousness of offence,” said a spokesperson of Chakradharpur railway division.

As a part of the drive several passengers littering the Tatanagar station premises were penalised last evening. An official said the anti-littering team conducted a surprise inspection at the station premises last evening and caught two passengers throwing empty plastic cup on platform no 2. ” Both, the passengers had to pay fine of Rs 500 each,” said the official.

The headquarters of Chakradharpur railway division had already declared 60-odd stations of the 77 under it as plastic-free zones. To complain against the use of plastics, polythene or thermocol, one can also approach the office of the station manager.

Senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur division, Bhaskar said that the anti-littering drive will continue till August.

“We are organising various programmes as a part of the cleanliness campaign to make aware the passengers about the importance of sanitation and hygiene. Posters, banners and handbills are also being distributed to sensitise the passengers and other rail users,” he said.

Tatanagar railway station witnesses a daily traffic of over 90- mail, express and passenger trains which either originate from Tatanagar of go via that station. The daily passenger footfall is close to 50,000.
