Jamshedpur, May 11: The district administration and civic body, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on Thursday embarked on a massive anti-encroachment drive that cleared the Sakchi Market of congestion by removing several road-side illegal constructions and kiosks.
The kind of shops which faced the eviction axe included electrical shops, furniture shops, tea stalls, snacks corner, hair-cutting salon and others.
Along the Milkhiram Market and the godown area the team removed clusters of shops and kiosks.
According to district officials, they would ensure that the market place is cleared of any type of encroachments including the manner in which the shopkeepers had extended their shops.
The drive led by SDO Suraj Kumar, JNAC special Officer and Sakchi Police Station in-charge cleared off encroachment. The officials again fined and collected more than Rs 1 lakh from several shopkeepers in Sakchi.
The policemen present on the spot removed the make-shift shops and the wares forcibly. The anti-encroachment drive began in the morning.
Encroachments in the city are omnipresent and thriving, much to the discomfort of the ordinary citizen. The city is known for the encroachments which blot the urban landscape.
