Anti-crime checking drive in Jamshedpur, three held

Jamshedpur, Dec 6: In order to ensure a peaceful New Year, the city police carried out anti-crime checking outside Mango police station, outside Olidih police station and at Chepapul. During this, the police only checked cars. The police also searched the trunks of all the cars and checked the dashboard of all the cars passing through there.

There was a long jam of vehicles during the check drive. During the anti-crime checking, the police have also detained three suspects from Chepapul who are being interrogated. Giving information, Rural SP Mukesh Kumar said that the police had received secret information that some criminals are trying to leave the city through Mango.

After getting the information, the police started anti-crime checking. During checking, three suspects have been detained who are being interrogated.

Meanwhile, Jamshedpur police today said that security will be beefed up in and around the city on the occasion of New Year celebrations. Extra forces have been deployed on picnic spots, restaurants, parks, malls so that people can welcome the New Year peacefully.

A total of 22 checking points have been set from Dimna and Burudih Dam in Ghatsila from the city for both the year end as well as the New Year celebration.  Those found unmasked will be taken to task.

The senior officer pointed out that they have put up over 20 armed police beside five police officers in the Dimna Lake area. “During this season eve-teasing cases register an increase at the picnic spots so the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,” said an official of the district women’s cell.

He said that they had convened a special meeting of the police officers assigned for carrying out the checking of arms or helmet in the city, and had categorically briefed them that whoever is using a Press or Police sticker must show a valid I-card.

“In the event that anyone fails to produce a valid I-card, then the police officer concerned will immediately strip the sticker off the vehicle and subsequently prosecute the person for cheating the police,” said the official.

With the onset of winter, denizens of the district have started frequenting the picnic spots and different tourist’s destinations to enjoy their holidays. Places like Jubilee Park, Dimna Lake, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam in Telco and Kanderbera, NH 33 are the favourites.

However concerned over recent spurt of naxal activities in the areas like Patamda, Ghatshila and NH 33 the East Singhbhum district administration is gearing up to make elaborate deployment of policemen — both armed and lathi-wielding — along with executive magistrates to maintain the law and order situation during the celebrations.
