Annual convocation of women empowerment programmes held

Jamshedpur: The annual convocation of various ‘Women Empowerment’ programmes was organised by Urban Services at Namda Centre on Tuesday. Santosh Ranjan, Head, Projects, Tata Steel, and Nandini graced the occasion as guests.

They appreciated the initiatives of Urban Services Department and also suggested that such programmes should encourage larger segment of women from bastis. They said these initiatives empower the women to become self-dependent. In all, 124 certificates were distributed to successful students.

Sanjay, Head, Urban Services, RS Pandey, Senior Manager, Urban Services, Gurbari Hembram, Manager, Urban Services and Manju Mishra, manager, Urban Services, attended the programme. The event was also attended by all area officers and community committee members of the Namda Community Centre.

Urban Services officials said such community-based initiatives are needed for vocational development of women in order to enable them to realize their full potential.

Women from the operational basti areas (urban settlements) constitute significant size of the population and are very often in the situation of extreme economic dependence.

Given the harsh realities of intra-household and social discrimination, the vocational programmes aim to specifically address the needs of such women.
