Annapurna Devi takes charge as Women and Child Development Minister

Ranchi, June 11: Cabinet minister Annapurna Devi took charge of the Ministry of Women and Child Development on Tuesday.

I am feeling excited and proud while taking charge as Union Minister of Women and Child Development. I will work towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of developed India,” she shared in the social media.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi has said that in the last 10 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed a memorable phase of women empowerment and protection and promotion of childhood.

She has written that she met former Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani at her residence and took guidance from her.

Annapurna Devi’s political journey started in 1998. She entered politics after her husband’s death. She started her political career with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and was an MLA for several terms. She served as a minister in Jharkhand. She has been elected MP for the second time from Koderma Lok Sabha seat. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated Babulal Marandi of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) by 4.55 lakh votes. This time he won by defeating Vinod Kumar Singh of CPI (ML) by 3.77 lakh votes.
