Jamshedpur: Anand Marg Pracharak Sangh on Tuesday celebrated Nilkanth Divas at Anand Marg Ashram in Gadra. On the occasion three hour �Baba Naam Kevalam� akhand kirtan was held. 300 people from the deprived section of the society were provided food.
The Anand Marg followers worldwide celebrate February 12 as Nilkanth Divas. On this day, to observe the occasion, a free eye checkup camp was also organized at the ashram at Gadra.
To make today’s event successful, Yogesh, Dr. Ashu, Rajendra Prasad, Dharmdev Singh, Raju Singh, Sudhir Singh, Rambali Singh, Arun Verma, Kartik Mahto, Vijay, Amit, Vinay, Vandan and Sunil Anand provided full support.
This is a special day because it was on this day that the religious organization�s founder Sri-Sri Anandmurty was administered poison in his cell at Bankipur Central jail on the night of February 12, 1973.
Anandmurty was arrested on charges of murdering his disciples. He fell sick in captivity because of the long tenure of his arrest. The doctor who was initially treating him was shifted and a new medic was brought in.
The new doctor, reportedly, was directed to poison Anandmurty. The ailing religious head was administered an injection containing poison. The effect took place immediately and Anandmurty started having serious convolution. But somehow he managed to survive. Pleas were put before the president, prime minister and the Bihar governor for an enquiry but these were ignored, Anand marg sources stated.
The religious head started an indefinite fast in his jail cell in protest which lasted more than five years. Finally he was absolved of the charges and released from jail.
