Amit Shah in Kolkata to Finalize West Bengal’s First BJP CM

Kolkata (IANS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Friday morning to oversee the selection of the BJP’s Legislative Party leader. This crucial decision will determine who becomes the first BJP Chief Minister in the history of West Bengal, following the party’s victory in the assembly elections.

High-Level Meetings and Religious Visit

Shah’s flight touched down at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport around 11:00 AM, where he was welcomed by state BJP President Samik Bhattacharya and former Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Before diving into political deliberations, the Home Minister visited a Goddess Kali temple in the North 24 Parganas district to offer prayers. He is scheduled to meet with all 207 newly elected BJP legislators at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town this afternoon to finalize the leadership choice.

Formation of the New Cabinet

Once the Legislative Party selects its leader, the Chief Minister-designate will visit Lok Bhavan to formally stake a claim to form the government before Governor R.N. Ravi.

The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at 10:00 AM at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states will attend the event. Security forces have already cordoned off central Kolkata and the Brigade Parade Ground to manage the high-profile gathering.
