Howrah/Kharagpur, April 20: The vigilance of the Commercial Department staff of Kharagpur Division led to the busting of a suspected fake railway recruitment racket at Howrah New Complex on Sunday night.

The incident unfolded when CTI/In-charge Debdulal Bhattacharya and his team noticed a suspicious individual dressed in a ticket-checking staff uniform. Upon questioning, the person, identified as Raunit Raj Shaw, failed to provide valid credentials and was found to be impersonating a railway employee.

A detailed interrogation revealed that Shaw was not a genuine railway staff member and was carrying multiple fake ID cards with false details. He confessed to being part of a group that regularly engaged in such fraudulent activities at Howrah and Sealdah stations. Further investigation pointed towards a larger racket involved in issuing fake training and ID cards to individuals posing as railway employees.

The accused was handed over to the Officer-in-Charge of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Eastern Railway, following all legal procedures and documentation for further action.

In response to the incident, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO/Kharagpur, Nishant Kumar, stated, “Our teams are working diligently to detect and prevent such fraudulent activities. The swift action by the CTI/HWH team is commendable and sets a benchmark for vigilance and integrity.”

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), KGP, K.R. Chaudhary, lauded the efforts and emphasized the need to intensify preventive drives to root out such frauds, reinforcing the railway’s zero-tolerance policy against impersonation and deception.
