Alarming rise in suicides: NCRB reveals disturbing statistics for Jharkhand in 2022

Ranchi: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has unveiled distressing details regarding suicide rates in Jharkhand for the year 2022, shedding light on the grim reality of the situation. The data indicates a significant increase in suicide cases compared to the previous year.

In 2021, Jharkhand witnessed 1825 suicides, a number that tragically surged to 2181 in 2022, marking a 19.5 percent rise. The statistics reveal a troubling trend, with 1473 men and 708 women succumbing to various factors leading to self-harm. The capital city, Ranchi, stands out with the highest numbers, recording 342 men and 208 women taking their own lives.

Among the myriad reasons cited for suicides, love affairs played a devastating role, contributing to the demise of 678 individuals across the state. Unemployment emerged as a concerning factor, with 188 people ending their lives due to job-related issues. This includes 163 men and 25 women, among whom 169 were professionals or salaried employees (148 men and 21 women).

The NCRB report also highlights 13 men and seven women who resorted to suicide over property disputes. Additionally, 31 students in Ranchi tragically took their own lives, citing failure in examinations as the reason.
