Al Qaeda suspects reveal existence of sleeper cell network in city, Seraikela

Jamshedpur, April 28: The two Al Qaeda suspects Abdul Rehmnan alias Katki and Abdul Sami, who have
been brought to Jamshedpur from Delhi�s Tihar Jail on transit remand earlier this week, are being intensively interrogated by a high-level city police team.

The duo was interrogated by Jharkhand ATS and Jamshedpur Police. The ATS team, which reached Jamshedpur on Wednesday, asked Sami and Katki several questions. While they replied to some of the queries, they remained silent on other questions.

The ATS team interrogated both the suspects separately and the details the provided have been kept a secret.

Residents of Dhatkidih Abdul Sami and Abdul Rehmnan alias Katki revealed some information the interrogators about the presence of terror network in Jharkhand.

The two al Qaeda suspects disclosed about the presence of the sleeper cell network in Jamshedpur and adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district.

They also uncovered their role in the expansion of the network in Jharkhand,� senior superintendent of police (SSP) East Singhbum, Anoop T Mathew said.

The SSP, however, refrained from disclosing in detail about the revelations.

Mathew said that they have started the interrogation and more things would be cleared as the two alQaeda suspects are in seven days police remand at present.

�Odisha police and Delhi police are likely to visit here in few days for questioning the two Qaeda operatives,� SSP said.

Abdul Rehman, who, according to the security agencies, is the head of the Al Qaeda India sub-continent network, was directly responsible for recruiting youths to Qaeda outfit in the two eastern states namely Jharkhand and Odisha.

A team of intelligence officials has also joined hands in the interrogation of the al Qaida suspects.

Sources said that those who are assigned to interrogate the two will focus on several points concerning Sami (32) and Katki (37) to know about their past activities in the steel city. The police want to know whether the duo have any link to criminal activities in the city.

The interrogating team is focusing on the number of times Katki visited the steel city. The police will know the content of the meeting with people, said a police officer on condition of anonymity.

Notably, the al Qaida’s Jamshedpur link was established after a team of Delhi Police had arrested Katki from Cuttack in Odisha in December last.

On the revelation made by Katki, the Delhi Police arrested Sami from a place in Haryana on December 18 for link with al Qaida.
