Akashvani Sangit Sammelan enraptures classical music connoisseurs

Jamshedpur: Akashvani Sangit Sammelan � 2019 saw the finest classical music exponents of international fame singer Uday Bhawalkar of Pune and Sarangi player Gauri Banerjee Sati from New Delhi holding connoisseurs and music lovers enraptured.

The Akashvani Sangit Sammelan is being organized since 1954 where great classical music exponents have been leaving their stamp through 65 years of a sensational journey. This annual concert comprising Hindustani and Karnatik music  is organized at many places simultaneously. This year the Sammelan was organized at 24 centres of Akashvani.

Akashvani Sangit Sammelan � 2019 was organized at Tata Auditorium in XLRI campus with even the large and spacious hall seeming cramped. The program on October 19, commenced sharp at 6 pm with Akashvani officials Director (Engineering) Durga Charan Hembram, Program Head Atmeshwar Jha, Program Officers Ajay Kumar Rai, Rajesh Kumar Rai, Pankaj Mitra, Rakesh Raman and Utpal Dutta and guests lighting the traditional lamp. Atmeshwar Jha welcomed the artistes, guests and the other members of the vast audience and gave a brief on the history of the event.

The first artiste of the evening was the critically acclaimed Dhrupad and Dhamaar exponent Uday Bhawalkar who presented his mastery through raga Kedar and followed up the performance with ragas Shankara and Durga that left the audience asking for more.

To add to the mesmerizing aura Sarangi musician Gauri Banerjee Sati who hails from a family of classical music exponents from Delhi and belongs to its third generation regaled music experts and general audience with her delicate and sensitive recitals of ragas Puria Kalyan, Maru Behag and Jhinjhoti. The large round of applause for both the artistes who were accompanied on Pakhowaj by Kolkata maestro Apurva Lal Manna and on Tabla by Pandit Kishore Banerjee respectively, was evidence enough of the deep appreciation they had generated through their performances.

Added to the performances were the popular and much-in-demand voices of veteran radio announcer with a mellifluous and an example in modulation Shahid Anwar and his young and vibrant English counterpart Nibha Sinha who anchored the proceedings in their own unique way.

The organizing committee which ensured huge success of the program comprised Krishna Ganguly, Vivekanand Jha, Rajiv Ranjan Tiwary, Vivek Aditya, TN Ratan Babu, Ravishankar Prasad, Vivekanand Ram, Biswanath Saha, Niranjan Kumar, Satish Kumar Chaki, Priti, Saloni Raj, Sripati Ram, Sashank Shekhar and Suresh Kumar Jha.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Durga Charan Hembram.
