Ranchi, May 27: On Monday, a delegation from the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), led by Ranchi University President Abhishek Shukla, submitted a demand letter to the Raj Bhavan Secretariat, addressed to the Governor cum Chancellor of Jharkhand. The letter highlighted the urgent need for the construction of the PG Commerce Department building located in Morabadi.
According to the letter, the condition of the PG Commerce Department building has been deteriorating since 2017, posing a daily risk of major accidents to students, teaching, and non-teaching staff. During the rainy season, the situation worsens, with knee-deep waterlogging causing damage to electrical equipment worth lakhs annually.
Despite assurances in 2017 from then Vice Chancellor Ramesh Kumar Pandey and an approved budget of Rs 6 crore 65 lakh in 2022 for construction, work on the new building has yet to commence. The delay has left the PG Commerce Department community aggrieved.
Chairman of the PG Commerce Department, Rohit Chaudhary, warned of potential protests, including lockouts and demonstrations in the Commerce Building, if construction does not commence promptly.
The memorandum was submitted by a delegation comprising mainly Rohit Chaudhary, Vikram Kumar Yadav, Manjeet Sahu, Priyanshu Sharma, Akash, Nayan, Vishal Kumar Yadav, and Sumit Kumar, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
