AIDSO members and students protest against closure of courses

Chandil: Members of All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO), Chandil unit, put up a demonstration at Chandil to protest the closure of PG and B.Sc courses at Kasi Sahu College, Seraikela, Baharagora College and Chakradharpur College on Saturday.

Raising slogans against the vice chancellor of Kolhan University RPP Singh, the protestors alleged that the neglect of KU officials had led to the current situation. They said the students of the region will suffer due to the closure of the courses. The university officials should take a decision to start the courses in the larger interest of the students, they said.

It is indeed disappointing to know that the university has decided to close down the courses. There are a large number of students in Seraikela, Baharagora and Chakradharpur. But sadly enough, the authorities concerned did not think a while about their future. The state government should take measures to solve the crisis and restart the courses at the earliest, said Anant Kumar Mahato, district secretary of the organization.

Dr Gurupad Rajwar, principal of Singhbhum College, said the PG courses were being run with the help of contract and guest teachers. He said the college had little to do as the decision to close down the courses had been closed following the directive of the university authorities concerned.

A large number of students participated in the protest. They threatened to wage an indefinite agitation in case the courses were not restarted soon.
