Jamshedpur: Violating traffic rules in the city will soon become an expensive affair, as the district transport department is set to install RLVD (Red Light Violation Detection) and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at key locations. These cameras will automatically capture images of violators and challans will be sent directly to their homes without any manual intervention by traffic police.

The high-tech surveillance system is expected to be operational within six months, with cameras initially installed at busy intersections in Sakchi, Bistupur, Jugsalai, Kadma and Golmuri.

“After Ranchi, Jamshedpur will be the second city in Jharkhand to implement this system to improve traffic discipline,” said Dhananjay Rai, District Transport Officer (DTO).

The 360-degree high-speed cameras will track vehicles in real-time, capturing violations such as riding without helmets, driving without seat belts and using mobile phones while driving. The system will then automatically extract vehicle registration details and e-challans will be sent to the violators’ registered addresses.

Traffic DSP Neeraj Kumar emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Following traffic rules is essential for safety. The shortage of manpower has been a challenge in maintaining discipline, but with this technology, enforcement will become much more efficient.”

Once fully implemented, this AI-powered traffic monitoring system is expected to bring a significant reduction in rule violations, making Jamshedpur’s roads safer and more organized.
