Jamshedpur, June 7: Thousands of students who recently passed matriculation in Kolhan are now grappling with confusion and anxiety as the ban on intermediate admissions in degree colleges has left them with limited options for further studies. Despite 44,548 students clearing their Class 10 exams across Kolhan — including 20,477 from East Singhbhum — the education department has failed to expand or upgrade Plus Two infrastructure in the district.
Following a directive from the Raj Bhavan, all intermediate admissions in degree colleges have been halted, creating a vacuum for students seeking Class 11 seats. East Singhbhum currently has only 29 government Plus Two schools and 11 inter colleges, many of which are located in remote areas. Additionally, nine upgraded schools in the district are still operating without approved teaching staff.
Director of Secondary Education Rajesh Kumar stated that students should take admission in nearby government Plus Two schools where seats are available. However, principals and education officials admit that pressure is mounting to grant conditional admissions for one final year.
The situation has raised questions about the preparedness of the education department. Mapping of nearby schools is underway and the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Karna Satyarthi, has assured a thorough review of the situation to prevent disruption in students’ academic journeys.
Meanwhile, affiliated colleges such as Karim City and JKS College, where intermediate infrastructure is separate from degree sections, have begun distributing prospectuses in anticipation of possible exemptions. A final decision from JAC and the state government is expected soon.
