Administrative apathy: Wheelchairs gathering dust at Potka Block Office

Jamshedpur: A case of administrative apathy has come to light at the Potka Block Office, where hundreds of wheelchairs meant for Divyangjans (persons with disabilities) were lying unused and gathering dust. Many of these mobility aids were now in a dilapidated state, with some on the verge of becoming scrap — a grim reflection of poor governance and failure in implementing welfare schemes.

These wheelchairs, purchased using public funds, have not been distributed to the intended beneficiaries, many of whom have been seeking assistance from the district administration and social organizations for years.

Highlighting this issue, senior BJP leader and former district president of Jamshedpur Mahanagar, Dinesh Kumar, took to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage. He stated:

“The work culture of Potka block office is under question. Hundreds of wheelchairs are gathering dust instead of being distributed. This is not negligence, but a joke in the name of public service. Accountability should be fixed for this.”

Dinesh Kumar has demanded a high-level, impartial inquiry, calling on Jharkhand’s  Chief Minister and East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi to take immediate action. He emphasized that this negligence was a serious obstacle to the goal of providing a dignified life to the disabled and urged for swift accountability and corrective measures.
