Administration struggles to enforce uniform and id card rules for Jamshedpur auto drivers

Jamshedpur, July 11: Despite repeated efforts by the administration and police, the enforcement of uniform and ID card requirements for tempo drivers in Jamshedpur remains inconsistent. Orders mandating drivers to wear specific attire and obtain identity cards have been issued periodically, yet implementation has faltered.

In a recent meeting addressing road safety concerns held in June, Senior SP Kishore Kaushal criticized the lack of adherence among tempo drivers. Orders were specifically directed at drivers operating at Sakchi stand, urging them to comply with uniform and ID card regulations. However, doubts linger over the execution of these directives due to perceived apathy from traffic police in enforcing these measures.

While efforts were briefly successful in 2021 when some drivers adhered to wearing blue-colored uniforms, the initiative was short-lived. Persistent challenges have prevented sustained compliance, reflecting ongoing struggles to regulate tempo operations effectively.

The benefits of uniforms and ID cards include facilitating driver identification and verification, preventing unauthorized individuals from operating tempos, and maintaining comprehensive records for law enforcement purposes. Despite these advantages, the community remains perplexed by the recurring failure to implement administrative orders aimed at enhancing regulatory compliance among tempo drivers.
