Administration removes Narendra Modis posters from public places

Jamshedpur: District administration today launched a campaign to remove banners of Bharatiya Janata Partys Prime-ministerial candidate Narendra Modi installed at several places across steel city.

A large flax banner of Narendra Modi installed in Golmuri was removed this morning by a team of officials led by district administration authorities. The move came in the wake of the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India under the Model Code of Conduct.

Sources in the district administration said the deputy commissioner-cum-district returning officer Dr Amitabh Kaushal had issued orders to strictly implement the EC guidelines and remove all party banners and election campaign material put up in an unauthorized manner all over the city. The party flags and banners are to be removed from public places as per EC directive, sources said.

The officials said the campaign would be launched wherever required on either the initiative of the district administration or following complaints of any party candidate or citizen.

The DC had recently said that action will be taken promptly in any case of Model Code of Conduct. Five to six cases were reported till last week. Notices have been issued in all the cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the district administration. Probe is also on in these cases as per the instructions of EC, said the DC.

Administration authorities have set up a team of officials who are keeping an eye on the election campaign by candidates and political parties. The team has to report the violation, if any, to the returning officer so that action may be initiated against the accused persons.

Notwithstanding claims of candidates or political parties, banners and posters were found to be pasted at several places in the city during the campaign today.
