Administration promises special traffic arrangements for Diwali and Chhath

Jamshedpur: The district administration has decided to make special traffic arrangement for the Bistupur and Sakchi market, keeping the vehicular congestion in mind during the festive occasion. During the Diwali and Chhath, entry of heavy vehicles and empty auto-rickshaw will be restricted to ensure easy movement of the private cars and two wheelers in the road leading to the twin marketplaces.

Officials said that the administration will work to ensure that the festivals pass off peacefully.

“We will soon be holding meeting to chalk out action to curb illegal stocking of crackers in residential areas and also selling of adulterated sweets during Diwali. This apart, meetings would be held with local civic bodies to arrange river side ghats for chhath festivity,” said an official.

He said that keeping the city free from encroachment would also be a focus area. “Encroachment is a menace in all urban area in the state. I am aware of eviction drive undertaken by my predecessor in commercial hubs and the resistance. Such drive along with police would be continue,” said the official.

Deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Vivekanand Thakur said that due to Diwali there is tremendous crowd of customers at the shops, especially at jewelry, utensils and electronic shops. He noted that for ensuring a smooth shopping by the Diwali revelers, they will restrict the entry of heavy vehicles into Bistupur market and also the entry of empty auto-rickshaw both in Bistupur and Sakchi markets so that traffic congestion does not take place.

Starting from Dhanteras to Chhath, the marketplaces in Sakchi and Bistupur get unusually crowded. On Dhanteras day, shops remains open till late in the night and traffic snarls become a frequent phenomena at the crossing due to the huge influx of vehicles, causing immense inconvenience to the people.

Meanwhile, the district police have tightened its belts and made special security arrangement at the prominent marketplaces in the steel city as a run up for the festival.
