Carry out regular patrolling near educational institutions
Jamshedpur : Concern over growing demand for providing safety to girls and women in the city, the district administration has given fresh orders to the police to increase strict vigil in city.
Moreover, in view of the year-end celebration, the administration has decided to step up patrolling. East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal has instructed all police stations to carry out regular patrolling especially at educational institutions frequented by women.
�I have asked the SSP East Singhbhum to further intensify patrolling near these educational institutions,� said Kaushal. The deputy commissioner further said that police forces would be deployed at picnic spots in and around the city.
Cases of atrocities against women have been on rise. On Monday dead body of a scantily clad woman was found police suspect it to be a case of murder. Moreover, activists of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS), a women outfit also demonstrated at the DC office for over an hour and their delegation later submitted a memorandum to the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal demanding safety for women.
The members claimed that spots near Jamshedpur Women�s College (Bistupur), Telco square and Aam Bagan which has large number of coaching institutions do not have police presence.
The outfit members also wanted administration to deputy policemen on regular patrolling at popular picnic spots, especially in view of rush of picnickers during this time of the year. The members earlier in the day took out a rally from Aam Bagan in Sakchi carrying placards.
�Yes we have been receiving complains of eve-teasing in different localities of the city, directions have been given to the police authorities to tighten the noose around the miscreants indulging in these activities,� said police officials.
In order to check the rising incidence of eve-teasing cases against women in public places especially in buses and in market places in the city, the district police initiated a number of steps to ensure quick intervention and timely redressal.
Deputy superintendent of police (Composite Control Room) Jasinta Kerketta, said that though police men in plains are deployed at strategic locations but till cases of eve teasing are reported every now and then.
� We have been asked to increase vigil in areas of women�s college and parks. We are hopeful that with an increased vigil cases of teasing would be lesser during the New Year celebration.
