Jamshedpur : The East Singhbhum district administration has given green signal to kick off beautification process of the nearly three-acre Gandhi Maidan on New Purulia Road in Mango at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh.
The beautification process of this ground assumes significance as it has a state owned High School (Mahatma Gandhi Uchha Vidyalaya) and the office of Mango Notified Area Committee (the local urban body of Mango catering to a populace of over 3 lakh). The ground is used round the year for hosting public rallies, fairs during major festivals of various communities and also Durga Puja.
The beautification plan, the tender of which will commence within a day or two, will see construction of slope gradient, laying of grass turf, plantation of different varieties of flowering plants and erection of grill to prevent cattle from munching on the flowering plant saplings.
Special officer MNAC Sushil Kumar. said that the beautification work would commence in mid-October. “The work would have to be completed by the agency within three months and we hope to give the residents respite from encroachment problems in January 2014,” added Sushil Kumar.
