Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan launches protests over political interference

The Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan launched widespread protests on Thursday against political interference in the traditional Adivasi self-governance system.

Members burned effigies of rival tribal leaders at Karandih Chowk in Jamshedpur to voice their strong opposition.

Protesters targeted Fagu Besra, president of the Marang Buru Bachao Sangharsh Morcha, alongside leaders of the Dhad Dishom Manjhi Pargana Mahal.

Similar effigy-burning demonstrations took place simultaneously across Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and Bihar.

Dishom Pargana Sonaram Soren accused both organizations of actively misleading the Santal Adivasi community for political gain.

He claimed the Ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha exploited a recent grand convention in Madhuban to consolidate its vote bank.

Soren directly accused the social organization leaders of functioning as an official political B-team for the governing party.

He asserted that political manipulation severely weakens the traditional self-governance framework, denying villagers proper justice.

This political interference has created competing traditional headman factions within individual tribal villages, causing deep internal divisions.

Soren blamed these political divisions for ongoing social boycotts within the Adivasi community.

The Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan announced plans to continue effigy-burning protests for seven consecutive days.

This week-long campaign aims to raise community awareness and safeguard traditional governance from further political interference.

Numerous organization leaders and active supporters joined the Karandih Chowk demonstration in full force.
