Jamshedpur: In a major push to decongest Tatanagar and enhance regional connectivity, Adityapur Railway Station is set to be transformed into a high-capacity “Satellite Station” and a major junction.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Arun Huria visited the station on Tuesday morning to inspect passenger amenities and safety protocols ahead of the launch of four pairs of passenger trains scheduled to begin operations from January 29.
Infrastructure Overhaul and New Train Services
The DRM reviewed platform readiness, signaling systems, and security standards to ensure the station can handle the increased traffic. He instructed officials to expedite all technical and safety preparations, keeping future train expansions in mind.
During a press interaction, the DRM revealed a master plan to modernize Adityapur’s infrastructure. Once the transition to a full-scale junction is complete, the station will provide direct rail connectivity to various parts of the country.
Key trains scheduled to commence/terminate at Adityapur include:
- Tata-Visakhapatnam Weekly Express: Starting Jan 29
- Tata-Dhanbad Express: Starting Feb 5
- Tata-Hatiya Passenger: Starting Feb 5
- Tata-Asansol Express: Starting Feb 6
Notably, the “down” racks for these services will now terminate at Adityapur instead of Tatanagar, significantly easing the load on the main city station.
Solutions to Long-standing Issues
Addressing public concerns, the DRM confirmed that the chronic water shortage at Adityapur Station has been resolved. Two deep boring units have been commissioned to ensure a steady supply for both the station premises and travellers.
Furthermore, directives were issued to open new commercial stalls and improve waiting facilities for passengers in and around the station area.
Tatanagar to Rival Airport Facilities
Following his visit to Adityapur, the DRM inspected Tatanagar Railway Station, where he ordered the immediate repair of faulty escalators. He shared a vision for Tatanagar’s redevelopment, stating that it is being transformed into a “high-tech” hub with facilities comparable to modern airports.
Other major updates included:
- Third Line Project: Work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed shortly.
- Railway Flyover: The DRM cleared the air regarding the proposed railway flyover and road construction near Tatanagar, confirming that work will begin very soon.
- Redevelopment Inspection: Accompanied by Area Railway Manager (ARM) Sameer Saurabh, the DRM also reviewed the progress of parking facilities and the ongoing Railway Re-development Project.
