CSIR-NML Jamshedpur marks 13th foundation day of AcSIR

Jamshedpur, April 3: The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) celebrated its 13th Foundation Day at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur. The event, organized by the AcSIR-NML Science Club, brought together distinguished guests, researchers, and students to commemorate the institution’s contributions to scientific and industrial research.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Prof. P.P. Chattopadhyay, Director of NAMIT Hatia Ranchi, along with Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, Dr. K.K. Sahu, Chief Scientist and AcSIR Coordinator at NML, and Roshan Kumar, President of the Science Club, AcSIR-NML.

In his welcome address, Dr. Chowdhury outlined AcSIR’s journey at CSIR-NML and its role in building a world-class academic and research ecosystem. He emphasized the significance of the MoU between CSIR and AcSIR, which bridges the gap between research laboratories and industries, transforming scientific knowledge into practical technological advancements. He also acknowledged the contributions of students, alumni, and faculty members on global platforms.

Prof. Chattopadhyay, the Guest of Honor, spoke about the interconnection between the industrial and knowledge sectors, stressing the need for a co-working ecosystem for sustainable innovation. He highlighted the importance of translational research, where knowledge is effectively converted into technology. “We are nurturing knowledge, but translating it into products remains a challenge—this is something to reflect on,” he remarked.

Dr. K.K. Sahu presented an overview of AcSIR’s achievements, sharing statistical insights on enrolments and graduates over the last five years. He also discussed AcSIR’s collaborations with international universities, reinforcing its global presence.

Roshan Kumar provided details about the technical session and poster presentations by AcSIR students, followed by a feedback session and felicitation of alumni.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sukalpan Nandi, Vice-President of the Science Club, AcSIR-NML.

AcSIR, established as an Institution of National Importance by an Act of Parliament in 2010, was officially notified in The Gazette of India on April 3, 2012.
