Accused targeted Jamshedpur doctor for avenging mother’s death

Jamshedpur, July 14 : The police have arrested two youths in the case of alleged firing in Baradwari after an extortion call given to a city doctor

Those arrested were identified as Sarfaraz Alam alias Chhotu (22) and Sahid Khan alias Sahjada (19), residents of Azadnagar and Kapali respectively.
The police recovered a lighter gun, air pistol used for bursting baloon, three cellphones, a sports bike and cloth used by Chhotu at the time of firing.
A police team headed by city SP, Subhash Chandra Jat nabbed the two accused on Saturday.

Making extortion call to Dr SK Kundu and later alleged firing him in front of a hospital at Baradwari seemed to be an act of taking avenge.
Revealing about the breakthrough, senior SP, Anoop Birtharay said that Chhotu’s mother was undergoing treatment of cancer by Dr SK Kundu, but after her condition deteriorated, the family members had taken the patient to a Mumbai-based hospital.
” As per our investigation, the doctors who treated the cancer patient in the Mumbai hospital opined that the chemotherapy done on the woman had not been done properly and this had caused her condition to deteriorate.� The woman died in May. As Dr Kundu had not treated Chhotu’s mother properly and had also extorted excessive money in the name of treatment, Chhotu had planned to avenge his mother’s death by extorting money from the doctor,” said Birtharay while addressing a press conference here today.
According to the senior SP, the two accused �snatched a cellphone from a boy who was returning home from his tuition on foot near the Sacred Heart Convent School campus on July 6 evening and the next day they had given a call to Kundu who while the latter was attending at a doctors’ seminar in a Bistupur-based hotel.
” After interrogation, we found that the caller had demanded Rs 10 lakh from Dr Kundu and had threatened him with dire consequence.� As the doctor informed about the call to the police, the district police provided him with a body-guard. But on July 10 afternoon, Chhotu and Sahjada had allegedly fired two shots at Kundu while the latter wsa intering into Apex Hospital at Baradwari,” said the senior SP.
