Koderma: In a landmark decision, the Additional District and Sessions Judge I (Special POCSO Court), Ghulam Haider, has sentenced Rohit Upadhyay alias Rahul Upadhyay, a resident of New Mahadev Rajghat, Varanasi, to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in the kidnapping and rape of a minor. The case, registered at Tilaiya Dam OP, has been under scrutiny, culminating in a comprehensive verdict.
The court found Rohit Upadhyay guilty under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code, leading to a sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment. Additionally, he was convicted under Section 04 (2) of the POCSO Act, resulting in a more severe punishment of 22 years of rigorous imprisonment. In a bid to enforce accountability, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the accused.
