Jamshedpur, July 3: A team of Anti-corruption Bureau’s (ACB) Jamshedpur wing arrested an accountant of Jugsalai Municipality for taking Rs 25,000 bribe from the kin of a former civic body employee.
The arrested accountant identified as Vinay Kumar Sharma (34) was arrested from his office. Deputy superintendent of police (ACB), Amar Kumar Pandey said a youth, Sristidhar Mukhi, who is a resident of Sarjamda in Parsudih had on Monday submitted an application, complaining about the accountant.
Pandey said based on statement by Sristidhar, they decided to take action against the accused and ultimately arrested him from his office with the bribe money this morning.
“As per our probe Sristidhar’s mother would work as a forth-grade employee at the jugsalai Municipality, but she died of some disease four months ago . After mother’s death Sristidhar approached the civic body for the PF.
He was paid Rs 4 lakh, but for the payment of the remaining Rs 4.3 lakh, the accountant had demanded Sristidhar to pay Rs 50,000 as bribe,” the DSP said.
He said the accountant had finalised the bribe amount to Rs 25,000 after a negotiation with the complainant and as he received the money, they arrested him immediately.
