Dhanbad: In a country like India, jobs in government and service sector are the most sought after by the semi-urban and rural population. However, the job market is mid-sized and immensely competitive.
ACC DISHA (Development Initiative on Skills for Holistic Advancement) is a holistic skill training and development programme that helps prepare young aspirants to secure jobs in various departments of government.
DISHA is a tailor-made, series of competitive examinations and coaching classes for students and job aspirants from rural areas. The programme runs for eight months and the classes include, amongst others, aptitude tests (mental ability, arithmetic, general awareness and language skills relevant for competitive exams) and soft skills. The coaching sessions are held thrice a week.
At first the initiative was piloted with a batch of 30 students from the villages of Chhatatand, Simatand and Shyamalpur. These students had Industrial Training Institute (ITI) diplomas and aspired to secure engineering jobs in the government sector.
The course has been a success with 10 students clearing the written test for the Railway Loco Pilot exam conducted by the Northern Coal Fields Ltd. Given the success of the first batch, a wide array of courses have been introduced for a range of recruitment and admission tests. The DISHA centre has been set up about 500 metres from the ACC Sindri plant gate.
Today the training courses include engineering, polytechnic, light motor vehicle (LMV) and heavy motor vehicle (HMV) operations, stitching and embroidery. The courses not only include theory but also include lectures by practitioners, experts and people in government service. Providing such roles helps increase motivation levels of trainees and helps them in better learning skills.
Commenting on the success rate of the initiative, Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director & CEO ACC Limited said, We are proud to witness the positive change that DISHA has brought about in the lives of youth who are aspiring to secure successful government and service jobs.
Our various skill training and development programmes have molded and shaped the impressionable minds of these young and talented children, thereby inspiring them to take on the challenges of work life.
We hope we can reach out to as many aspirants as possible and help them in our best capacity to accomplish success.
