Jamshedpur : Twenty -year- old girl Jyoti Barla on Wednesday surrendered before the Bistupur police, after making an abortive bid to extort Rs 4 lakh as ransom from the parents of a six-year-old girl student whom she had picked up from outside the Loyola School premises in Bistupur.
The police had mounted pressure and he was forced to surrender. Her boy friend is absconding. The victim, Sarin Kandulna, was released safely late on Tuesday evening.
The senior SP Anoop T Mathew said they came into action a complaint from the victim girl’s father, Sawan Kandulna, that his daughter, Sarin, who is a student of UKG at Loyola has been abducted from the school.
The police had sent Kandulnas with a bag of containing Rs 1 lakh to the spot near Tata Steel Zoological Park gate as dictated by the criminals. Soon a team of police officials rushed to the spot and found the victim, but there was no trace of anyone else.
According to information, at the Loyola School the victim was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to pick her up, but as the auto-driver did not turn up on time and very few students were left on the premises, the accused Jyoti rode her scooter near the school and picked up the victim by offering her an ice-cream.
The police had launched a drive and conducted raid in the house of the culprit, who had came home here on vacation. Barla’s younger brother was also a student of the same school.
The accused had entered the school and lured the victim girl, who was waiting for her auto-rickshaw after school hours, with an ice-cream and abducted her, he said.
Notably, Kandulnas belong to a middle class family. Sawan Kandulna works as a crane operator in Tata Motors Limited, wife Binita is a clerk at the Bank of Baroda’s, Golmuri branch.
A senior police officer said that one of the CCTV cameras had the footage of the student and the abductor.
