Abducted tribal girl from Tatanagar railway station recovered

Jamshedpur : A 17-year-old tribal girl who was abducted by a 28-year-old youth from the platform No 1 of Tatanagar station on April 24 was recovered by the government railway police, Tatanagar.

The teenager who was from Joda police station area in bordering Keonjhar district of Odisha was abducted while she was on her way to Rourkela for seeking a job.

The railway police have sent the victim to the MGM Medical College and Hospital for a medical examination to know whether she had been raped or not. The railway police suspect that the girl might have been exploited.

Officer-in-charge, GRP, Tatanagar Ramendra Kumar Thakur said that the teen-ager had come from Joda alongwith her brother, brother-in-law and a 16-year-old nephew. The four were supposed to go to Rourkela to a relative’s house to seek jobs there.

“As per our information the girl was waiting for a Rourkela-bound train along with her kin, the stranger youth got closed to them. He promised to arrange a job for the girl at Rourkela and took them all outside the station premises claiming that he will need a photograph of the girl for her employment,” said the officer-in-charge.

According to the police, the youth took the girl to Adityapur where he kept her along with her for a night. The next morning, he took the girl to Chakradharpur where he took away her cell-phone and Rs 500 which she had brought for meeting the travel expense.

He said when it was too late, and the girl started crying, a woman appeared at the scene and gave her shelter at her home,” said the officer-in-charge.

According to the railway police, this morning, the woman brought the girl to the Chakradharpur railway police station and handed the girl over to the police on Sunday. The Chakradharpur railway police immediately informed the GRP, Tatanagar, leading a team of police officials to rush to the Chakradharpur from where they recovered the girl.

The officer-in-charge said that the stranger might have a plan to get the girl sold off and therefore he stole the girl the cash and the cell-phone and made her to sit in a particular place.

He said the victim’s brother and sister-in-law had left for Joda having lodged a complaint with the GRP, Tatanagar on April 24 and are coming to Tatanagar after getting the information of the teen-ager’s recovery.
