Jamshedpur, March 12: Families of four young migrant workers from Jadugora who died in a construction site accident in Gurugram, Haryana, have received the first installment of compensation from the company involved in the project.
The tragedy occurred on March 9 at a construction site of Signature Global Limited in Gurugram, where a sudden soil cave-in claimed the lives of four labourers from Bangoda village under Hathivindha Panchayat in Jadugora.
According to family members, the company management has handed over cheques of Rs 20 lakh each to the families of the deceased as the first installment of compensation.
Bhupati Mahto, a relative of deceased Mangal Mahto, said the families have been assured that an additional Rs 15 lakh will be provided by the company within the next three days, while Rs 5 lakh will be given by the Haryana government.
Following the completion of post-mortem formalities on Thursday, the bodies of the four victims were sent to Jharkhand by three ambulances at around 3 pm. The bodies are expected to reach Jadugora by around 5 pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, acting on the instructions of the district administration, officials from the Potka block visited the affected village and met the bereaved families to prepare detailed family records for further assistance and government benefits.
The deceased have been identified as Mangal Mahto (30), Bhagirath Gope (30), Dhananjay Mahto (40), and Sanjeev alias Dulal Gope, all residents of Bangoda village under Jadugora police station in East Singhbhum district.
Two other workers from the area — Rakesh Mahto and Sameer Mahto — narrowly escaped the accident as they were engaged in other work at the site when the soil collapse occurred.
Sameer Mahto later informed the families in Jadugora about the tragedy.
Earlier, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto met the families of labourers who lost their lives in a construction accident and assured them of compensation and employment support. The meeting took place at a PWD guest house in Gurgaon.
