Jamshedpur, July 9: In a tragic incident in Jubilee Road backside of Convent School a boy aged around 9 years was drowned in an open manhole on Wednesday evening around 4 pm when heavy rain lashed city where by uprooting several tress at various locations.
The boy named Sameer was playing with his brother and as the rain started they thought of taking bath and were on the streets and all of a sudden he fell inside the sewer while his brother tried to help but of no use and within seconds he was drowned.
Sameer�s brother informed the family and his mother who works as a domestic help in a bungalow at Officers Flat near Jubilee Park. Soon people gathered around it and started searching for the boy but were unable to find it were Jusco officials also reached the spot and search operations were also carried at Jayanti Sarova as the sewer leads to the lake.
Divers were soon pressed into service and started searching every part of the area but couldn�t find the boy. Ex-BJP MLA Saryu Rai, Bistupur Police officials, Jusco officials along with locals of the area were seen around and lots of people were hoping that the boy would move out from the sewer, meters away from the manhole but till late night the search operations continued and they couldn�t trace Sameer.
Sameer�s mother works as a domestic help while father is a driver while he is the smallest of the four brothers and sisters.
