Loyola School crowned 6th Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao Quiz champs

Jamshedpur, Nov. 25: Loyola School won the 6th Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao state level Science Quiz, organised by CSIR- National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur for the students of std. lX & X in the fond memory of its former director Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao.

Quiz master, V.V Ramanan from Chennai, conducted the Science Quiz. A total of 71 schools comprising 213 student participants accompanied by their respective teachers from different parts of state, namely- Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Chaibasa, Chandil, Jadugoda, Chakradharpur, Noamundi, Ghamaria, Ghatshila, Mosabani and also Local Schools of East Singhbhum district participated in the Quiz.

Dr. S.Srikanth, Director, CSIR-NML welcomed the gathering and briefed on the life and works of Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao to the august gathering. He also motivated the students for a scientific career.

Altogether five Schools, namely � Sacred Heart Convent School, Sakchi; D.B.M.S English High School, Kadma; Loyola school, Bistupur; DAV School, Bistupur and Delhi Public School, Bokaro qualified for the finals amongst 71 participating Schools. There had been a neck to neck fight.

Although Delhi Public School, Bokaro; DAV School, Bistupur and Sacred Heart Convent School, Sakchi was leading for quite sometime but finally Loyola school, Bistupur emerged as winner represented by Kanishk Mukherjee, Abhishek Kumar Patra and Jayant Krishna scoring 127 points whereas DBMS English School, Kadma, Jamshedpur represented by Rishav Mishra, Piyush Agarwal and Omkar Sahu finished as the runner-up scoring 120 points.

The Chief Guest udha Rao, wife of Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao gave away the prizes. She was accompanied by Director CSIR-NML and other dignitaries.

Prof. P Ramachandra Rao�(21 March 1942 � 10 January 2010) was a�metallurgist�and administrator. He has the unique distinction of being the only Vice-Chancellor (2002�05) of the�Banaras Hindu University�(BHU) who was also a student (1963�68) and faculty (1964�92) at that institution. From 1992 to 2002, Rao was the Director of the�National Metallurgical Laboratory,�Jamshedpur.
