Jamshedpur, May 14: In a significant achievement, 70 youth from rural areas of Jharkhand and Odisha secured placements in various companies in April, 2025. This achievement is a testament to the committed efforts of Tata Steel Foundation in empowering youth through skill development initiatives that align with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission.

Tata Steel Foundation has been actively enabling Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Jharkhand, and Odisha, creating a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters industry-ready skills. These institutes offer a broad range of technical and non-technical courses tailored to meet the aspirations and capabilities of youth from diverse backgrounds, particularly from rural and underserved communities.

- FY 25–26 (in April’25):
o Placements: 70

The first ITI supported by the Foundation, ITI Tamar, was established in 2012, three years before the launch of the Government’s Skill India Mission. Currently, four ITIs are operating under a Public-Private Partnership – three in collaboration with the Government of Jharkhand and one with the Government of Odisha.
Commenting on the milestone, Captain Amitabh, Head – Skill Development, Tata Steel Foundation, said: “The best thing we have been able to achieve is transforming ITI training into a source of inspiration – especially for students from marginalised backgrounds. What was once a challenge in mobilising students has now become a movement. There is a beeline for admission, and we have to screen candidates to select them. Our consistent 100% placement record, including foreign placements, stands as a strong testimony to the success of this transformation.”
A special milestone was achieved as 8 outstanding students from Masti Ki Pathshala, Tata Steel Foundation’s flagship educational programme, secured placements with Tata Marcopolo after completing a one-year diploma course at ITI Tamar. With a starting package of 3.2 lakh per annum, several among them are first-generation learners and the first in their families to step into formal employment.
Masti Ki Pathshala aims to bring out-of-school children back into the fold of education through flexible, residential, and non-residential bridge courses. Many youths from this programme who have completed class 10 at reputed schools in and around Jamshedpur have gained hands-on knowledge through internships at ITIs, further shaping their career paths.
Further underscoring the success of the programme, select students from ITIs have also secured foreign placements in Dubai and Hong Kong, earning a minimum monthly salary of 1.5 lakh – an extraordinary leap that reflects the quality and global relevance of the skill training being imparted.
The ITIs supported by the Foundation offer skill development courses in sectors such as manufacturing, capital goods, automobile, electrical works, mechanical repairs, and business development. Youth from the remotest parts of Jharkhand and Odisha come to these centers, driven by ambition and the dream of a better future.
Tata Steel Foundation remains committed to fostering learning opportunities and promoting inclusive growth through its education and livelihood initiatives, strengthening its role as a key enabler of the country’s skilling ecosystem.
