7 climbers from Jamshedpur qualify for Nationals

Jamshedpur, Oct 12: Seven climbers from Jamshedpur have qualified for National Climbing Championship to be held in Delhi on 25th – 27th Nov’ 15 after putting up brilliant performance in the 21st IMF East Zone Sport Climbing Championship held at JRD Tata Sports Complex from 9 to 11 October.

The championship was organized jointly by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) and Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

Climbers from Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar showed extraordinary climbing skills on first two days of the event the finals of the championship was held on Sunday followed by the prize distribution function.

Chief Guest for the event was Tata Steel VP (Corporate Services) Sunil Bhaskaran. Also present at the event was Chief of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Bachendri Pal, Col. Ajit Dutt, Chairman, Sports Climbing, IMF, Air Vice Marshall A. K. Bhattacharjee and Padma Shri Mountaineer Premlata Agarwal. This year Jamshedpur has bagged 12 positions across all categories. Till last year, Jamshedpur was never known on climbing map of India.

TSAF recently inaugurated climbing gym to promote Sport climbing in & around Jamshedpur, which has started to show the signs of changes in Jamshedpur climbing scene.

7 climbers (Babulal, Khushboo, Amit Sharma, Talim Ansari, Manish Biwshwakarma, Jyoti Kumari, Tanisha Patnaik) from Jamshedpur have qualified for National Climbing Championship to be held in Delhi on 25th – 27th Nov’ 15. Apart from them, Saket Samar from Jamshedpur was awarded most promising climber award by IMF.

According to the final results: In Mens Open-Lead: Romjan Sk, Abhishek Majhi and Subha Bhattacharjee were declared the top three. In Mens open-speed: Romjan Sk, Abhishek Majhi and Babulal; In Mens open-bouldering: Romjan Sk, Babulal and Abhishek Majhi; In Womens open-lead: Riya Pyne, Kumari khusboo and Tamali Basak; In Womens open-speed: Kumari khusboo, Khukumoni Paswan and Swarupa Mondal; In Womens open-bouldering: Anwesha Konar, Kumari khusboo and Khukumoni Paswan; In Jr boys-lead : Suraj Singh, Rohit Biswas and Amit Kumar Sharma; In Jr boys-speed: Suraj Singh, Rohit Biswas and Manish Bishwakarma; In Jr boys-bouldering: Suraj Singh, Rohit Biswas and Amit Kumar Sharma; In Jr girls-lead : Jyoti kumara, Shreya Thakur and Susmita Paul; In Jr girls-speed: Shreya Thakur and Susmita Paul were the top two finishers; In Jr girls-bouldering: Shreya Thakur was the winner; In Sub Jr boys-lead : SK Raj, Talim Ansari and Rudrangsho Dey; In Sub Jr girls-lead : Nitu Kumari Yadav, Prapti Surana and Tanisha Patnaik finished in top three position at the championship.
