Jamshedpur: The 6th Santhali Regional Film Festival and Jharkhand Cine Award ceremony is going to be held from April 12 to 18 in Jamshedpur.

The film festival will be inaugurated at Michael John auditorium and the concluding day function will be held at Gopal Maidan on April 18 with a colorful cultural programme.

Film organizing committee member Ramesh Hansda said that a total of 14 films would be screened during the festival. Films made in Ho, Santhali, Nagpuri, Khorta, Kurmali and other regional languages have been selected for screening, he said. Short films and documentaries would also find a place in the list of films to be shown during the weeklong film fete, Hansda said.

Awards to the tune of Rs 2,50,000 would be given away to the winning films and the artistes. A core committee for selection of Life Time Achievement Award and Special awards would be constituted soon.

Ramesh Hansda said that the annual film festival had played an important role in promotion of regional cinema and languages.

Several organizations have expressed their interest in the film fest that had successfully provided a bigger platform to the local cine artistes. Hansda, however, lamented that the State government did not provide any help in promotion of tribal cinema or for organizing such events.

The field of popular entertainment has the potential to open new employment avenues for the local youths and at same time can promote regional culture and language in a big way, Hansda observed.

Surendra Tudu, Bhua Hansda, Dasrath Hansda, Dhanu Murmu, Pitambar Hansda and others have been included in festival organizing committee.
