Jamshedpur, Dec. 8: Chess players from across the country will participate in the 5th JRD Tata All India Open Chess Tournament, which will be inaugurated on Tuesday. The prize money of the tournament is Rs. 2.50 and will continue till December 15. Matches will be held at the eastern wing of the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The tournament is being organised by East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA). The event is recognised by FIDE (Federation Internationale des Echecs or World Chess Federation) and AICF (All India Chess Federation).
Tournament organising panel president Suresh Kumar said that around 100 entries are expected for the event. Twice International Master Krishna Teja from Andhra Pradesh and Chakravarthy Reddy from Telegana have confirmed participation. Grand Master Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury from Bengal is also likely to participate.
The tourney will be played over 10 rounds. Players from Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telegana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Air Force have confirmed their participation. Jamshedpur-based Jayant Kumar Bhuyan will be the chief arbiter of the tournament.
ESDCA secretary Narendra Kumar Tiwary said 22 local players (from Jharkhand) have registered their names. Last year, there were 80 local representations. The last date of entry is December 9. Forms will be accepted till 12 noon.
