40-year-old man kills three of his family members


Jamshedpur: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old mentally disturbed man identified as Sohrai Hembram killed three of his family members, including wife before committing suicide by hanging at his house at Dalsora village under Rajnagar police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district about on wee hours of Friday.

Hembram tried to kill two other children, but they survived the attack with serious injuries. Those killed were identified as Mahi Hembram (33), wife of Sohrai, six-year-old daughter Sabita and one-year-old son, Badai.

The police have rescued the two injured children, 10-year-old son Samir Hembram and eight-year-old daughter Pinki and rushed to a local government hospital in Rajnagar. But as the condition o Samir was serious, the hospital authority referred him and also Pinki to MGM Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Officer-in-charge, Rajnagar police station, Pramod Kumar Singh said that Sohrai who was mentally disturbed started attacking his wife and children with a sickle today.

” We are gathering information. As per the initial information, the assailant had first killed his wife by attacking her with sickle.

After killing the wife, Sohrai had killed his six-year-old daughter and one-year-old baby boy. Before killing two children Sohrai gave grievous injuries to Samir as he tried to stop his father from attacking the family members. On being injured, the boy had fled the spot rescuing his younger sister Pinki who had also faced the wrath of their killer father,” said the officer-in-charge.

” As the news spread, Sohrai’s elder brother Raju Hembram who would reside near the assailant’s house had rushed to the Rajnagar police station for informing about the incident. On getting the information, we too rushed to the spot and rescued the injured,” the police officer said.

Raju Hembram who accompanied with the injured children said Sohrai who used to do agricultural activity would remain mentally disturbed since the past few months.
